Travel to Goa by air - airports, airlines and booking tips
Goa is well connected by air to the rest of India and to a growing number of international destinations. Flying is the fastest way to reach the state — Mumbai is about an hour away, Delhi about two and a half hours.
The two Goa airports
Goa now has two airports. Pick the one closer to your hotel.
- Dabolim Airport (GOI) — the long-standing civilian-and-naval airport in South Goa, near Vasco da Gama. Convenient for hotels in South Goa (Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Cavelossim, Palolem) and central Goa (Panjim).
- Manohar International Airport, Mopa (GOX) — the newer airport in North Goa, opened in January 2023. Convenient for hotels in North Goa (Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, Arambol). Most international long-haul flights to Goa now use Mopa.
When you book, double-check whether your flight is to GOI or GOX — it makes a meaningful difference in transfer time and cost. Mopa to South Goa hotels is a 90-minute drive; Dabolim to North Goa is similar.

Airlines flying to Goa
As of 2026 the main domestic carriers serving Goa are:
- IndiGo — the largest network, with the most daily flights to Goa from across India.
- Air India — Tata-owned; Vistara was merged into Air India in November 2024 and its former routes now run under the Air India brand.
- Air India Express — the low-cost arm of Air India.
- SpiceJet.
- Akasa Air — a 2022 entrant; expanding routes to Goa.
A few names you may see on older travel sites are no longer flying — Kingfisher (closed 2012), Jet Airways (2019), Go First / GoAir (2023), Vistara (merged into Air India, 2024).
International carriers operating seasonal or year-round flights to Goa (Mopa) include British Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Etihad, flydubai, Emirates and several charter operators in the European winter.
Routes from Delhi, Mumbai and other Indian cities
- Delhi to Goa — about 2 hours 25 minutes, multiple direct daily flights to both Dabolim and Mopa. The alternative is a 25–30 hour train journey, so flying is almost always the right call.
- Mumbai to Goa — about 1 hour in the air. Several daily direct flights to both airports. The Konkan Railway day trains (Vande Bharat, Tejas, Jan Shatabdi) take 8–9 hours and are scenic — see our Travel to Goa by train page if you want that experience instead.
- Bengaluru to Goa — about 1 hour 15 minutes. Frequent direct flights.
- Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata — all have direct flights to Goa.
Tips on booking and fares
Domestic Indian airfares are dynamic — the price changes by the hour with demand, and a "headline" fare on a third-party search site rarely matches what you actually pay at the end of the booking flow.
- Book early for Goa weekends and the Christmas / New Year fortnight. Last-minute fares for these dates can be three to four times the off-peak price.
- Compare on a meta-search. Google Flights, Skyscanner, Cleartrip, MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, Yatra and Ixigo all surface roughly the same inventory but with small differences in fees and fare classes; check at least two before you book.
- Book with the airline directly when you can. Direct bookings on the airline website usually have the cheapest fare and the simplest experience if you need to change or cancel; third-party agents add a service fee on top and can complicate refunds.
- Watch the baggage allowance. Indian low-cost airlines have moved to fare bundles (Saver / Flexi / Plus etc.) where the cheapest fare often includes only 15 kg checked baggage and a single 7 kg cabin bag. Hand luggage is now strictly enforced. Pre-purchasing extra baggage online is much cheaper than paying at the airport.
- Beach gear, surfboards and fishing rods travel as oversized baggage — check the airline's policy before you arrive at check-in.
- Web check-in opens 48 hours before departure on most Indian carriers and saves time at the airport.
- Scheduled GST and convenience fees are now shown clearly in the final fare; the days of large hidden surcharges at the end of the booking flow are mostly behind us, but watch for "convenience fee" and "seat selection fee" line items that are toggleable.
Getting from the airport to your hotel
- Pre-paid taxis are available at both Dabolim and Mopa — fixed fares to most major destinations, paid at a counter inside the terminal.
- App taxis (Uber, Ola) work at both airports, but Goa's taxi unions have at times disputed app-taxi pickups; pre-paid taxis are the most predictable option.
- Hotel pickup — most resorts will arrange a transfer for a fee, often comparable to a pre-paid taxi but with a confirmed driver.
- Public transport — limited; not really practical with luggage.
