India is a popular destination for those interested in religious tourism. As recently as April 2012, Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari visited Ajmer Sharif, a shrine of saint, Moinuddin Chishti located at Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. According to a 2001 census, Islam is the second-most practiced religion in the Republic of India after Hinduism, and India has a Muslim population of over 138 million people. The mosques stand out by the sheer brilliance of their style, architecture and history. The Cheraman Masjid is said to be the very first mosque in India, built in 629 AD by Malik lbn Dinar. The Jama Masjid is one of the famous mosques in New Delhi, India. The Jama Masjid in Delhi was build over a six year period in 1656 AD by the fifth Mughal Emperor of India, Shah Jahan. While most foreigners across the world would probably know that the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, India was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Many may not know that he is also the builder of the Jama Masjid. Jama Masjid is in the Chandni Chowk and the Red Fort are of old Delhi. It is said to be the largest mosque in India and approximately 25,000 people can pray here at a time. In 2011 according to news reports in the Indian media, A new mosque to be built in Kerala will soon become the largest mosque in India where 25,000 to 30,000 people can pray at a time. This will make Jama Masjid the second largest in India.
