Who needs a Visa to enter India?

All foreign nationals arriving in India need a visa. The only exception is nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not need a visa to enter India but must have acceptable proof of identity. Nepal citizens can avail the no visa benefit only if they are entering India from Nepal.

Visa on Arrival in India -

Please note that tourist visa on arrival in India does not refer to people arriving in India and requesting a visa at the point of arrival. India’s visa on arrival to avoid such confusion is now refereed to as e-Tourist Visa (e-TV). This type of visa required an online application, payment of fees up to four days prior to travel to India. Once a confirmation of approval is received by applicants, they can print out the emailed confirmation they received and take it with them when they travel to India as proof of visa. Their passports will be stamped at entry points in India. India Visa on Arrival Airports

The facility of getting a visa on arrival in India is currently provided only at designated international airports namely:  Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi.

Visa on arrival in India conditions

International Travelers whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation , sight seeing , casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit. Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer. International travelers should have return ticket or onward journey ticket,with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India. International travelers having Pakistani Passport or Pakistani origin are not eligible for this type of visa and should apply for regular Visa at Indian Mission. Please be aware that visa on arrival is solely at the discretion of the authorities, rules and regulations change from time to time. To avoid any complications and to ensure your tour of India is a pleasant one, it may be more appropriate to get a tourist visa before traveling to India. Getting a tourist visa for India for nationals of most countries is a simple process and usually does not take more than a week. However citizens of some countries such as Pakistan need more time and the fee structure are also different.

 General requirements for applying for visas to visit India:

Original passport valid for at least six months. Correct visa fee. Two Recent passport-size photographs (five in case of Pakistani nationals Supporting documents, where necessary. Duly completed application form (Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals need to apply on special application forms)
